Why be a jack of all trades, master of none, when you can just be the master of one? This is a question I assume Luca Mazzanti asked himself when he entered the automotive business, because since he launched Mazzanti Automobili, his only focus has been the one hypercar the company produced.
And this car just happened to be the Mazzanti Evantra.
Making its first public appearance at the Top Marques Monaco show in 2013, this mid-engined berlinetta was designed to be very limited yet highly customisable. What every Monegasque tax-avoiding millionaire craves.
But to reinstate its exclusivity, which was the driving force behind this car’s sales, the name Evantra originates from the ancient Etruscan language and resembles the concepts of uniqueness and eternity. Evantra was even the name the Etruscans called the goddess of immortality.
Which is a car name only an Italian could come up with, seeing how the Japanese company Isuzu literally named one of its cars the Mysterious Utility Wizard.
Either way, Luca Mazzanti’s plan to name his hypercar after the goddess of immortality feels very ironic after the car’s production ended in 2022, after the manufacturing company seemingly disappeared. And they did just disappear, with no website or social media presence since mid-2022.
Now it’s difficult to describe this car due to its unique, tailor-made design, for example, its bodywork. It retained its core two-seater coupe style. You could get it in a pro-body spec with carbon fibre panelling, or a one-body spec with some parts in hand-beaten aluminium, and it was fully customisable.
The interior is similarly very customisable, with no two cars being alike. They do, however, share the fact that the start engine button is positioned on the roof of the car, providing its driver with a Top Gun-esque driving experience as you start your car in the same way you would start up a fighter jet.
The Evantra, however, is powered by a 7-litre naturally aspirated aluminium Chevrolet V8, capable of delivering 701 hp at 6,600 rpm.
| Top speed | 217 mph |
| 0-60 | 2.7 seconds |
| How many units were sold | 15 (roughly) |
| Cost when new | £650,000 (lower end) |
| Is this car just a Build-a-Bear Ferrari? | yes |
Writing this car of the week article was actually a lot more difficult than intended because of how customisable the vehicle can be, but here we are, so it’s our car of the week.
