The following is my personal opinion (which I assume you too already share).

Now, I don’t want you to assume for a second that I like this car, so I won’t give you the opportunity to do so. This car has single handedly tarnished the entire automotive industry and is hands down the worst creation ever. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this car has seemingly been designed by someone with no eyes at all. Not even a mother could have loved its face. It looks like the automotive equivalent to Frankenstein’s monster, and if you haven’t guessed so far, I’m talking about the Fiat Multipla.

Numerous publications have come out praising the car in recent years, applauding its prioritisation of substance over looks. But I can’t accept this, I hope every model drives off a cliff, spontaneously combusts or just vanishes without a trace.

The world is now a better place now that this car is no longer in production, but there are still over 500 Fiat Multiplas left on our roads. And I can honestly say, I regularly check this statistic so I can celebrate the day when that number hits zero.

I am a firm believer that all cars hold a historical significance and we should attempt to preserve and restore cars so they don’t get lost to history. But I hate this thing. I don’t see it as a car, more of a mess of metal begging to be broken down into parts, but even then the individual parts of this car are disturbing.

Why does it have three seats in the front, and three in the back? This seating configuration only works for a couple with four kids with a blatant favourite who can sit in the front. The wing mirrors, why are they so large? They look like they’ve been taken directly off a bus. The interior looks as if it’s been made by the same company who produce the plastic capsules for kinder eggs. I can’t even begin to fathom what was going on when they decided to sew together two separate cars, stop halfway through, take a step back and think, ‘Yeah, we can sell thousands of these.’

AND THEY DID!

Fiat Multipla Series 1

The Multipla is however our car of the week because it’s been on my mind all month now. Ever since I drove past one and exercised the restraint not to crash into it in an attempt to write it off, I’ve been filled with regret and it’s not been able to leave my mind.

So the Multipla is our car of the week, but again, please don’t ever think that I like this car.
